Halloween

Halloween is very different in Alhambra from any Halloweens Eric and I grew up with. First off our ward doesn't do a trunk or treating because our building doesn't even have a parking lot. So a family in our ward invited all the families with kids over to their house for dinner and then to do some trick or treating.



It was a madhouse at the dinner with all the kids running around every place, not wanting to eat but just start trick or treating. We tried to take a group picture with all the kids but about 10 of them didn't cooperate.

Lexie's little friend Sadie was Cinderella and they were so cute together. They are like the best of friends and were excited to go with each other. For some reason they don't understand that you hurry from house to house so we were always at the back of the pack.


Half way through they were both climbing into the stroller and we called them the "Princess Poopers". I guess they thought they should be pushed from house to house, after all they were princesses and how many princesses do you know that have to work for their candy?



Once we left to go trick or treating it was a nightmare. There were about 50 of us in our group all starting off and it was so chaotic. We would get to a house and send all the kids up and it would take forever for them to get their candy because there were so many of them. Slowly (and I mean slowly) as the night wore on we started staggering off. But one of the other problems with Alhambra is that most of the homes don't know the Halloween etiquette that if you aren't home or don't have candy then you turn your porch light off. So many lights were on but we would have to walk like five houses to get to one with candy. I swear after walking a block Lexie had like 6 pieces of candy in her bucket and that was only because people gave her two at a time.

I was excited to have two kids this year to get double the chocolate. But the very first house Joshua went up to, he got scared when the guy put the candy in his bucket. This was his reaction.

Eric thought we shouldn't take him up but I wanted him to get candy so from then on either Eric or I would carry him up. We finally left our group and were headed home when we decided to just take them by ourselves. We found a street that seemed to have quite a few trick or treaters and took them up and down it. It was so much more pleasant. It was way less chaotic, and Joshua actually liked going up to the door now, they would hold the bowl out for him to pick a candy and he would grab a handful (my kind of kid). They would let him keep all of it too. We need to work on Lexie because when they would let her pick she would inevitably pick the only sugar candy in the bowl instead of the chocolate. She actually had a choice on which full size candy bar she wanted and she picked the sour fun dip. Hello, doesn't she know what chocolate is.


In the end the kids ended up getting more candy the second place we went than they did the first. When we got home Joshua loved to stick the candy in his mouth, wrapper and all. Lexie dumped out her bucket and shovelled it all to her. We ended up getting way more candy than we should ever eat but we had a good time doing it.
